If I’ve booked a trip can I cancel and get a refund?2023-10-26T10:03:19+01:00

The general rule of thumb is that the club looks dimly on people cancelling last minute because the forecast is not good! Partly this is because in Scotland you can rarely tell if the forecast will hold true and some of the best days happen when you least expect it. Getting out there is the aim, and you’ll be surprised by the number of times this rewards you.

If you do still wish to cancel for other reasons then our policy is to permit this as long as we have someone else to take your place. There is often a good reserve list so this is possible but can’t be guaranteed. The best thing to do is to contact the trip organiser by email or WhatsApp and confirm your request to cancel ASAP.

Day trips – do you go out in any weather?2023-10-26T10:04:00+01:00

The short answer is that’s up to the members that have signed up for the day trip. We do not provide guides. There is no one qualified to make that decision for you on the day. You can speak to the trip organiser and other members and decide if the conditions are not suitable as a group. We use a trip specific WhatsApp group usually to manage this kind of conversation. This is also a great place to ask other trip specific questions.

Whilst we do not have an extensive list of kit to borrow from, we do have some avalanche transceivers, shovels, and probes. Have a look at this page to find out more

How do I access and download my membership card?2023-11-01T14:15:08+00:00

To access your IBSC digital membership card, navigate to your account page and log in.

Once you have logged in, you will see that your account information is split between several tabs, including the new “Card” tab. Click on the “Card” tab to view your digital membership card. You can also bookmark this link to navigate directly to your membership card.

You can press the “Download” button to download your card onto your device as an image. Alternatively, you could take a screenshot.

Digital membership cards are new for the 23/24 season so we expect that there will be a few snags. You can help us out by reporting any issues that you experience to webmin@ibsc.org.uk.

Why is my Mountaineering Scotland number not shown on my membership card?2023-11-01T14:19:51+00:00

If your Mountaineering Scotland membership number is not shown on your card, it is because it is not currently stored in the system. There are a couple of ways to resolve this, depending on your IBSC membership type.

If you joined under one of the “Ordinary member”, “Over 60s membership” or “Student unemployed membership” categories, IBSC will add you membership number to the system. This could take a few days if you only recently joined. If you have waited for a few days and still cannot see your number, please contact .

If you joined under the “Any member, already a member of Mountaineering Scotland” category, it is your responsibility to provide IBSC with your membership number. This should have been done when you joined the club, however, you can add the details to the system yourself if needed.  Navigate to the “Details” tab on your account page, enter your Mountaineering Scotland membership number into the relevant field and press “Save & Continue”. When you go back to the “Card” tab, the details should now be populated.

At this time it is not possible to add your membership card to digital wallets. You can click the “Download” button to download an image of the membership card.
